TIPS ON SOLAR ECLIPSE MONDAY, AUGUST 21
You'll have to travel to see the full splendor of the upcoming solar eclipse, but there will still be quite a show right here in Manatee County. There is no location in Florida where you'll see 100 % of the sun being obscured by the moon -- a total solar eclipse. The best and total view will occur over South Carolina.  However, a majority of the sun will be covered no matter where you live in our state on Monday.

The farther northeast you travel, the more dramatic the sight:  90.5 % of the sun will be covered in Jacksonville, while NASA's interactive map shows Pensacola will have 81.5 % coverage.  Tampa will have 81.4 % coverage and Sarasota 79.2 %. Hope for no clouds.  You won't be able to see any part of the eclipse if the view is obstructed by cloud cover.  Protect your eyes!  Don't look at the sun directly.  Use a pair of certified and safe solar eclipse glasses.  Manatee County Libraries have a supply, so try our nearby branch library, Rocky Bluff, 6750 US 301.

FORT HAMER BRIDGE EVENT AND OPENING
The long-awaited opening of our new connection from Rte. 301 and Fort Hamer Rd. in Parrish, to the southern part of our county is coming soon.  The official ribbon-cutting will take place on September 23.  To celebrate in advance, the Fort Hamer Bridge Run will be held on Saturday, August 26.  It will be a 5 and 10 K race, which will start at 7:30 am.  For more information, visit Fort Hamer Bridge Run.  Run yourself or watch the event.

Important Reminder:  No Glass in Pool Area!
One of our most important rules for the use of our pool and deck areas is that no glass containers are allowed in them.  This is a critical safety issue because if they break, pool area users with bare feet could be cut by the shards.  And if they get into the pool, the shards cannot be seen and avoided.  Please bring your beverages in paper, plastic or aluminum containers only.
